Pat's Hats
|
In May of 2006 my best friend of 34 years, Patricia, became very sick. After several visits to the local ER she was sent to Duke Hospital for tests to determine her problem. She was diagnosed with stage 3 Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This diagnosis was extremely traumatic for her and the realization that the necessary Chemo treatments would result in complete hair loss made it worse. She decided to prepare for the hair loss by looking for a wig. So we go to Raleigh where we met Rose. With compassion and professionalism, Rose helped her choose a wig that was almost a perfect match to her natural color and style. (Most people are not aware that she wears a wig.) After selecting her wig, she started looking at hats to sleep in and to wear around the house. The more she looked at, the more emotional she became because she likes all her clothes to be color coordinated. Rose overheard me say that I could sew and ask me if I would be interested in making some hats for her to look at. I told her yes and that was the beginning of my compassion hat business. Pat is the QA person for Ah-B Crafts. She tests each different type hat and fabric texture for comfort, style, color and practicality. I feel blessed that I can design and make hats for those who, for medical reasons, lose their hair. My hope is that wearing a hat by Ah-B Crafts will make someone feel better. My goal is to make hats that, when worn, the first thing someone will think is “What a neat hat.”
Thank you and God Bless, |
